Summer Running Camp...

I volunteered to chaperon a running camp for 3.5 days last week and it was REALLY fun. It was very hilly terrain so I got many good long walks in ;) I left early to walk the running routes and would cheer on the kids as they passed by. When they stopped to walk it was fun to say..."hey listen, if you are walking with me and I go into labor, you know you are going to help me deliver the baby right?" That would get them going again fairly fast!

I also did a "talk" about people with disabilities who run. The kids were divided into groups and participated in activities were they simulated having different physical challenges such a blindness, deafness, muteness, fine motor issues and balance and coordination deficits. They had to perform different tasks that a typical runner would perform on race day while they had something physically challenging. I am happy to report that they had a lot of good discussion after we were done with all the activities which made me happy!

If you want to see some pictures click on the link labeled Summer 2009 Running Camp. There are a lot of pictures as that is the album I made for the kids' families.
