Hoping not to exceed 5,000 grams....

Today was a pretty eventful day. We had our second Fetal NST and Aloysius' heart rate was nice and strong with lots of fluctuations which is what they want to see. Mom-to-be also had a couple measurable contractions during the 40 minutes we were hooked up to the monitor which was pretty exciting for Eric and I to see :) Afterwards we had an appointment with OBGYN. I was a little anxious because it was my first time dealing with a male for an actual exam, but everything went well. He did an ultrasound to make sure Aloysius had plenty of amniotic fluid around him/her and of course, there was plenty there. He also estimated that the baby is probably over 9 pounds or so....YIKES!! Eric and I looked at each other when he said "wow" as he was palpating my belly. My cervical exam revealed that my cervix is still way up there and probably not dilated because it does not appear the baby has dropped at all. We spoke a lot about our options at this point. There is a policy at the base hospital that if a non-diabetic baby is 5000 grams and a first baby, they will do a c-section. Let me just inform you that 5000 grams = 11 pounds. I was a 10 pound 9 ounce baby so there is a chance, but the doc does not think our baby is this big. So for now, the plan is to have another NST on Monday afternoon followed by a radiology appointment to have an ultrasound guesstimate the actual size of the baby. Tuesday evening, if Aloysius is still being stubborn I may be admitted to the hospital to start working on inducing labor with some cervical ripening agents. If those do not work, then they will induce labor and we should have a baby by the end of the week:) Eric and I cannot wait to meet our little one and we are happy to have some kind of a plan...or at least I am. Of course we would rather go into labor this weekend and avoid this all...but only time will tell!!!!

Oh my! Well, at least you know you'll meet your little one before the end of next week! Hope everything happens naturally before he or she hits the 5000 gram mark! Can't wait to meet Baby A!

I hope you "ripen" on your own this weekend. I have a feeling that next Tuesday will be the day he/she decides to rev things up a bit and begin the exiting process!! Let's skype this weekend.
