On Thursday evening, while Hairpin was picking little A up from pre-school/daycare, the kids were playing up on the roof top playground. Hairpin and the teacher were chatting about the day's events when suddenly they heard crying. Two children fell while running and landed on top of each other. One was little A :( He bumped his chin against the little girls head and split his chin open. The staff remained calm and controlled the bleeding while Flounder received the news at home. In the midst of all of this, there were some major traffic issues on the GW Bridge that were vague in nature. Initially Hairpin was going to bring Aloysius home, but in light of the traffic situation Flounder preferred that little A be seen at a trusty urgent care walk-in clinic (City MD) by the old pad on the UWS of Manhattan. And so it was. The boys were seen by the MD and a plastic surgeon was contacted to perform the suturing. The boys were informed it would take approximately 40 minutes for him to arrive. Flounder got in the car and headed to the city. This would usually be a 40 minute drive so it seemed feasible to arrive in time for the suturing. She avoided the GW only to sit in stand still traffic at the other bridge into the city. By the time she managed to arrive at City MD the boys were out and little A had a Band-Aid on his little chin. His eyes were red from crying and Flounder's heart sank. She was devastated not to have made it in time. She apologized profusely, kissed him as much as possible and held him. He simply said "I missed you." This nearly broke Flounder's heart. She sat and listened as the boys told her what happened. The MD laid down the chair and placed a papoose on him. He cried and screamed. Then it was time for the numbing needle which was described as huge. The sight of that as well as the actual injection were also not well received. But after that, the actual suturing process, Aloysius managed to stay calm. The sweetest thing was that he kept asking Hairpin to give him kisses, lots of kisses. Hairpin was not even allowed to stabilize little A's head. He had to stand by and just watch. Honestly, not sure if Flounder could have handled all of this. Hairpin feels it best she was not there. Flounder agrees.
Here is little A telling Abuela what happened the next morning.
Hanging out with Baby Sushi.
