9-6-13 Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program

"Universal Pre-Kindergarten is available for all children who will become four years old by December 31 of that calendar year and reside in the state of New York.  A lottery is held to elect the children and this program is provided free of cost to parents!   Classes are either in elementary school or in early childhood centers. Most programs are half day, either morning or afternoon and about 2 ½ hours per day.  There are no economic or developmental qualifications."

Little Aloysius was accepted into NYS UPK program late Spring.  He started pre-school at Jawonio, INC this past week.  Flounder had the day off Friday and visited his class.
Aloysius' job was to report on the weather during circle time.  Flounder loved the songs used during this time were also "signed."   His teacher Bonnie is fluent in sign language!
Flounder was amazed that at Day 3 the kids were already sitting appropriately and raising their hands to answer.
Aloysius chose the play dough center.
While walking in the hallways, the kids "touch red" to stay in line and head back to class.  Guess who had a hard time staying on task while his Mom was there?
 Silly goose!
So far Aloysius reports that he likes his new pre-school.  Flounder and Hairpin miss the folks at Tender care in NYC but are happy that little A does not have that long commute anymore and is enjoying Jawonio :)
