As all of you know, Flounder, Hairpin and Aloysius moved up to Rockland County, New York, back in December of 2012.
And as some of you may or may not know, this is where Flounder grew up. Can you spot Flounder? This is the 6th grade graduating class at Link Elementary School.
The Abuelos lovingly offered us their home because the city would become unaffordable to us once Sushi was born. In addition, the Clarkstown Central School District, is a very reputable school district and we thought this would be the best move for our family.
During the Kindergarten application process we discovered that this "great" school district did not necessarily have the best interest of our little Aloysius in mind. There was no 504 plan documenting exactly how Aloysius' diabetes was going to be managed at school until August 28th. A 504 plan was requested at the first meeting with the school on February 7th, 2014. Since we were unsure as to what would transpire, a search for other Kindergarten options in the area as well as in NYC begun. The local private schools were very accommodating but completely unaffordable. A look into District 3 schools, where our old apartment is, proved to be promising. After the very first conversation with the principal of a public NYC school, Flounder cried on the way home. Tears of joy, anger and frustration. It took over 6 months, with legal counsel, for the Clarkstown Central School District in Rockland County to finally provide Aloysius with most of the MD recommended accommodations in school. However, at this school, in less than10 minutes, little A was offered exactly what his medical expert team recommends without one inkling of hesitation. This was the universe speaking loud and clear in our eyes.
On Friday, August 29th, we found out that Aloysius was accepted at the school we liked most:) Not only would they take him as a paying-non-resident student, but they would enroll him in the Spanish Dual language Program!!! Once again, the universe was speaking loudly.
Though Flounder was excited at the prospect that little A would be going to the same elementary school that she once did as a child, the excitement was completely drained once during the dealings with the Clarkstown Central School District and it's Board, who never even bothered to acknowledge the concerns presented to them. Though once we thought returning to Rockland would be the best move for the family, the doubt set in. After much discussion and weighing the pros and cons of it all, Hairpin, Flounder, Aloysius and Sushi ARE MOVING BACK TO NYC!!!
We are not sure exactly when the move will be; however, Little A started Kindergarten today in the city. He picked out his clothes and was literally waiting ready-to-go for almost 10 minutes before we actually left!
A little excited perhaps...
Expressively letting Flounder know this was his classroom.
Standing outside of his school.
Rainbows happen to be a hit in the family. They also happen to decorate the outside of his school!
